Andorra is in the heart of the Pyrenees and only covers an area of 464 square kilometres. It is a country of beautiful valleys and peaks, every town and village is surrounded by marvellous scenery that contains many wild animals and birds including eagles, vultures, wild boar, wild cats and the 'isard' a wild antelope found in the Pyrenees. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times with Neolithic Age and Bronze Age finds. Remember Andorra is not part of the EEC so visitors should take heed of the restrictions that apply when tempted by the extremely low prices for tobacco and alcohol. Both the French and Spanish Customs are now, quite rightly, very sensitive to traffic across the border to Andorra. It is however, well worthwhile arriving in Andorra with a nearly empty tank as Duty Free fuel does make for extremely cheap pump prices. Travelling downhill most of the way from the Port d'Envalira near the French Border, through Andorra to Le Seu d'Urgell and on to Llerida you will be surprised how far you can get on one tank full of fuel. |
