Auvergne is in central France and consists of 4 Departments, 03 Allier, 15 Cantal, 43 Haute Loire and 63 Puy de Dome. The prefecture of the region is Clermont Ferrand. South of Clermont Ferrand is the Massif Central which was formed by volcanic eruptions and the very distinctive domes or Puys formed at that time dominate the landscape. North of Clermont Ferrand is the rich farming area of the Bourbonnais. Often missed en route for the more popular south the region is well worth exploring for scenery that cannot be found elsewhere. NB. There are currently only 1 Department in Auvergne where we have not taken pictures. It is: 43 Haute Loire. Consequently this Department is not included in the displayed selection list on the left.
