Basse Normandie (Normandy) is in northern France and consists of 3 Departments, 14 Calvados, 50 Manche and 61 Orne. The prefecture of the region is Caen. The Cotenin peninsula of sandstone and granite in the north and the wonderful 'bocage' in the south make up Lower or Basse Normandie. Today Normandie shows little of the enormous scars left by the second world war but there are countless reminders in the form of museums, war graves and monuments to the memory of all that suffered, not least the residents of this beautiful region. NB.
There are currently 2 Departments in Basse Normandie where we have not taken pictures. They are:
50 Manche and 61 Orne.
Consequently these Departments are not included in the displayed selection list on the left.
