Franche Comte is in central France and consists of 4 Departments, 25 Doubs, 39 Jura, 70 Haute Saone and 90 Territoire de Belfort. The prefecture of the region is Besançon. To the northeast of the region is Belfort bordering with Alsace. In the northern part of the region is the Haute Saone with its rolling farmland whilst further south is the Jura where the scenery changes to climb up to a Plateau with craggy limestone escarpments and sparkling rivers running through deep gorges. Caves are to be seen everywhere in the Jura, some with ice that remains frozen all year. Visit the Jura National Park and the spectacular falls at the 'Cascades du Herisson' which is a series of falls as the water drops from the top of the plateau down to the valley below, one of the series, The Grand Saut falls some 60 metres. NB. There is currently 1 Department in Franche Comte where we have not taken pictures, 90 Territoire de Belfort. Consequently these Departments are not included in the displayed selection list on the left.
