There are 17 Regions (Comunidades autonomas) in Spain. These include the Balearic Islands and The Canary Islands. If you have only experienced Spain from package holidays to the Costas then you have missed the spirit of Spain. The people are friendly and interesting, the towns and countryside can be spectacular and with a little luck (or planning) you can experience a fiesta taking place for a glimpse into the true Spanish atmosphere with all the traditional spanish dress, the guitar, horses and even bullock carts. The landscape can change dramatically from green fertile areas to almost moonscape features, from snow capped mountains such as the Sierra Nevada to the fantastic coastline that has, only in parts, been transformed into the package holiday world. The towns in the heart of Spain such as Granada, Avila, Segovia, Toledo and many, many others are really worth the trouble to visit. NB. There are currently 7 regions of Spain where we have not taken pictures. They are: Asturias, Galicia, Islas Baleares, Islas Canarias, Murcia, Navarra and La Rioja. Consequently these Regions are not included in the displayed list on the left. |
